Being a Witness in Court

As a witness you have a key role to play in the Criminal Justice system. We understand that you may be unfamiliar with how courts work and may feel nervous about giving evidence.

If you are cited as a witness you will receive a copy of our Being a Witness booklet. It aims to answer many of the questions you may have and gives you information about:

  • who's who in court
  • what to bring to court
  • what will happen when you get there
  • giving evidence
  • what expenses you can claim and how
Diversity

Witnesses come from different backgrounds and have diverse needs. You can read how the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service deals with Diversity issues and how our action plans help us to appreciate diversity in our communities and ensure fairness in the way we provide services.
