Lord Advocate Announces Creation of Specialist Health & Safety Division

The Lord Advocate, the Rt Hon Elish Angiolini QC, today announced the creation of a dedicated, specialist Division for the investigation and prosecution of all cases which are reported to the Procurator Fiscal by the Health and Safety Executive.

Fresh Indictment Served in Relation to Rosepark Nursing Home

A new indictment has today 30 September 2008 been served in connection with the fire at Rosepark Nursing Home, Uddingston on 31st January 2004 which caused the death of 14 residents.

Lord Advocate Appoints New PF for Central

The Lord Advocate, the Right Honourable Elish Angiolini QC, today announced the appointment of Michelle Macleod as Area Procurator Fiscal for Central. A skilled prosecutor with over 15 years experience, Mrs Macleod brings particular expertise in the investigation and prosecution of sexual offences, having headed up the dedicated sexual offences team in Lothian and Borders since it was established in October 2007.

Lord Advocate appoints new Procurator Fiscal for Aberdeen

Mr McGowan, previously District Procurator Fiscal for Greenock, will now hold a commission for Aberdeen Sheriff Court District and will act as the personal representative of the Lord Advocate on a day to day basis. He will have local responsibility for the investigation and prosecution of crime and the investigation of sudden, suspicious and unexplained deaths

The Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini QC, today wrote to the Justice Spokespersons in the Scottish Parliament to provide information on the implementation of the new offences introduced to the Road Traffic Act 1988 of Causing Death by Careless, or Inconsiderate, Driving (Section 2B) and Causing Death by Driving: Unlicensed, Disqualified, or Uninsured Drivers (Section 3ZB). An Expert Advisory Group on Sexual Crime, established by the Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini QC, met for the first time today in the Crown Office in Edinburgh. The permanent expert group brings together prosecutors, Rape Crisis Scotland, and the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland to consider best practice in all aspects of the investigation and prosecution of sexual crime

Fiscal Fines Delivering Swifter Justice in Minor Cases

Following claims in the media that “sex fiends” are being offered fiscal fines to avoid sending them to court; that fiscal fines were being offered in cases which may have resulted in imprisonment; and that summary justice reform had resulted in the liberation of a person accused of rape, the Crown Office today insisted that such claims were unfounded.
