Where Are We?

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) is responsible for the prosecution of crime in Scotland, the investigation of sudden or suspicious deaths, and the investigation of complaints against the police.

The headquarters of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) are at the Crown Office in Edinburgh. The Crown Office has two main groups:

  • The Serious Casework Group which prepares cases for the High Court and Court of Appeal and also contains the Serious and Organised Casework Division, the International Co-Operation Unit, National Sexual Crimes Unit, the Scottish Fatalities Investigation unit and the Health and Safety Division. 
  • The Corporate Services Group which has responsibility for prosecution policy and practice, business development, finance, human resources, estates, communications and IT and leading on management of change in the organisation. 

The Serious Casework Group is headed by the Director of Serious Casework and the Corporate Services Group is headed by the Deputy Chief Executive.

COPFS is structued into three federations.

 

North of Scotland

With Offices at:  Aberdeen, Stonehave, Elgin, Peterhead, Banff, Dundee, Perth, Arbroath, Forfar, Inverness, Dingwall, Fort William, Kirkwall, Lerwick, Lochmaddy, Stornoway, Tain, Darroch, Wick and Portree.

East of Scotland

With Offices at:  Edinburgh, Livingston, Haddington, Jedburgh, Selkirk, Cupar, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Alloa, Falkirk and Stirling.

West of Scotland

With Offices at:  Glasgow, Campbeltown, Dumbarton, Dunoon, Greenock, Rothesay, Oban, Paisley, Ayr, Kilmarnock, Dumfries, Kirkcudbright, Stranraer, Airdrie, Hamilton and Lanark
